General:
Mostly sunny with scattered clouds northeast. Remaining cold and blustery with highs only in the upper single digits to mid teens. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph, diminishing later in the day. Providing winds chills between 0 and -20 through the morning, rising just above freezing over the deeper valleys.
Brief:
Surface high pressure drifting southeast from Northern Ontario provides a dry but cold winter day. Highs today struggle to make much upward movement, as they only crest into the upper single digits to mid teens. Low pressure sluggishly moving through the Canaidan Martimies and approaching high pressure provides a pressure gradient. Therefore blustery northwest winds between 10 and 20 mph prevail today, making for wind chills below zero throughout much of the day over the valleys. An upper level ridge and surface high pressure provides settled conditions today under mostly sunny skies. No large high impact systems are expected until the end of the upcoming week. Tomorrow provides more of the same dry and mostly sunny conditions with highs cresting into the 20s over the larger valleys, except upper teens over the northern mountain towns. We see highs gradually make a return to the lower 30s over the valleys by Wednesday. High pressure suppresses a low pressure system over the Mid-Atlantic States Tuesday night into Wednesday and this only provides a chance of light snow mainly over southern portions of the region, due to its closer proximity to low pressure. Settled conditions remain for the end of the week with temperatures right around normal for the mid-winter. After a back and forth start to this winter the upcoming week finally provides the weather you expect by just looking at the calendar.
Winds:
Blustery northwest winds prevail today, between 10 to 20 mph with a few higher gusts over the higher terrain. Tonight winds remain from the northwest but abate to less than 10 mph. Tomorrow provides west to northwest winds less than 10 mph.
