General:

***HEAT ADVISORIES IN EFFECT THIS EVENING, EXCEPT HEAT WARNING IN SOUTHERN QUEBEC, AND EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNINGS IN THE UPPER HUDSON VALLEY, AND IN HILLSBOROUGH AND MERRIMACK COUNTIES IN NEW HAMPSHIRE; HEAT ADVISORIES REMAINING ACROSS SOUTHERN VALLEYS ON SUNDAY***

This Afternoon: Partly cloudy, hot and humid. An isolated thunderstorm possible, mainly over high terrain; a severe storm also possible. Valley highs in the low to mid 90s. Southwest winds 5 to 15 mph.

Brief:

A chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight will accompany a continuation of the very sultry air. Heat warnings and advisories in effect late today and this evening, with heat advisories remaining for southern valleys on Sunday.

Overnight the very warm ridge of high pressure will remain in control. On Sunday, a pair of cold fronts will drop southward past the Québec border, bringing with them the chance of showers and thunderstorms. The heat and humidity will relent somewhat across the region, but some southern valleys are still likely to hit the 90 degree mark, and that still accompanied by quite humid conditions. The first of the two cold fronts will drop to around the Massachusetts border late in the day, while the second front might stall out and begin to dissipate over northern Vermont.

On Monday, the southernmost front will remain stalled over Massachusetts. During the afternoon an area of low pressure will begin moving along this front from southwest to northeast. This appears likely to spread a soaking rainfall at least across southern and eastern parts of the forecast area from Monday afternoon into Monday night. It will also be considerably less humid on Monday, and even less than that on Tuesday, as a large upper-level trough starts to work in from northern Canada.

Winds:

At lower elevations today winds will come out of the southwest at 5 to 15 mph. Wave heights on the open waters of Lake Champlain will run generally 1 foot or less. On Sunday, valleys will see west winds of 5 to 15 mph, with waves on Lake Champlain again 1 foot or less.

Mountain:

Summits will be in and out of the clouds today, and it will be quite warm even over the 4,000-foot summits, along with the slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm this afternoon. On Sunday summits in the south will be in and out of the clouds, with an isolated thunderstorms possible. In the north summits will become obscured, along with scattered showers and thunderstorms. On Monday summits will be in and out of the clouds early, before becoming obscured near and south of Route 4, as rain moves in from the west in the afternoon.
