Starting Jan 26 — Community College of Vermont offers an introduction to the fascinating world of astronomy with Mark Breen, director of the Spitzer Planetarium at the Fairbanks Museum, and producer of Eye on the Night Sky, heard weekdays on Vermont Public Radio.
The course takes a practical approach to astronomy, starting with the basics of the night sky, and then exploring our Solar System, out through the Milky Way galaxy, and to the farthest reaches of the universe. Students will spend time in the Lyman Spitzer, Jr. Planetarium, as Mr. Breen connects views of the Big Dipper and Orion to such curiosities as black holes and dark matter. The motions of the Moon, the investigation of Mars, and the newest images from Pluto are among the assortment of astronomy subjects that will excite star gazers of all ages.
The course is offered Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 8:15 PM, starting January 26th, and going through May 3rd.
