Position Avaliable: Program Associate, Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium’s New Explorers’ Club Afterschool Program, Americorps Member 900 hour position

Job Description/Primary Duties:

As part of a team, develop and facilitate inquiry-based science content for an afterschool program based at the Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium.  The Museum’s afterschool program was created to inspire and empower students toward scientific pursuits.  Using the Museum’s vast resources, and the natural environment, the scope of the creativity and excitement of this program are limitless. 

The New Explorers’ Club meets once weekly during the school year, from October through May.

We are looking for someone with a strong background in the sciences and/or environmental education, early childhood education experience, who is organized, able to follow directions and to work independently.  The successful candidate will also  be inspired personally by the natural world and viscerally excited about sharing all of its wonders with Museum audiences.

Additional duties include:
o    Creating a monthly newsletter about our program to share with stakeholders and families of participating children.  An important component of the newsletter are extension opportunities for families to build on concepts introduced at the museum and deepen family connections.
o    Documentation of the program.
o    Attending regular planning and debriefing meetings.
o    Contributing time and/or content to additional science programs for youth throughout the calendar year.

A great way to get involved at your own pace and schedule is by volunteering. Volunteers are needed to staff the front desk and support the administrative office, help with events and programs, support collections care and research, and much more. Please contact Bruce Allen if you'd like to join the volunteer team at the Museum.
