THE HISTORICAL COLLECTION

19th century agricultural, industrial, and household objects are a significant part of our Historical Collection.   Farming, ice-harvesting, woodworking and other tools of yesteryear, along with rural-history artifacts made with Vermont ingenuity from local resources, are widely represented.

Displays featuring some of these items can be found in the upstairs gallery.

Victorian lifestyle can be observed through such items as housewares, dolls, fashion attire, textiles, memorabilia, archival photos, diaries and community records which are all part of this collection.

Scales and other ironworks produced by the Fairbanks Scale Factory comprise an important part of the collection including postal scales, doctors’ scales, hay scales, platforms and delicate balance scales.   A small portion of this collection is on display downstairs.

Please contact our History Curator for further questions about these artifacts.
