Carolyn Guest is our lead teacher, bringing creativity and joy to the Balch program. She lives in East St. Johnsbury with her husband, her cat and her gardens. Carolyn grew up on a farm in Lyndon VT and carries her life long love of nature and rural traditions into her classroom. Carolyn is a familiar face in St. Johnsbury, where she has been a preschool teacher, Fairbanks Museum volunteer, and talented artisan. She has a B.S. in Consumer Family Science and is a VT licensed preschool teacher.
Ashleigh Cummings Moriarty is our assistant teacher. Ashleigh lives in St. Johnsbury with her husband, two daughters, and dog, Elvis. She has a Masters of Education degree and taught students ages 2-22 for 10 years before moving to Vermont. When she is not at the Balch Nature School, you can probably find her exploring outside, cooking, reading, camping at her yurt or painting an old piece of furniture. Ashleigh has two daughters who have loved being Balch students. She has served on the Balch Nature School Advisory Committee.
