About Our Archives  |  Douglas B. Kitchel Center  |  For Researchers

The Center is a unique regional resource. It provides a central clearinghouse for information and studies pertaining to the Northeast Kingdom's history and heritage, its natural history and ecology; and its economic, political and social character.

The Kitchel Center houses texts, images and archives, available for use by the public. Books, magazines, newspapers, photographs, videos and tapes reveal the many facets of the Kingdom: its people and communities and its history, agriculture, natural resources, weather, archeology, demographics, geography, and folklore.

Comprehensive field guides and natural history texts, town histories, maps, and geological surveys are available. Subjects covered include farming, industry, tourism, covered bridges, wildlife viewing, fishing, recreation, the Connecticut River valley, and more. Poetry and prose about the Kingdom or by Northeast Kingdom authors is represented, and videos about this area or of films shot here will also be part of the developing collections. An on-line catalog is being developed.

The Kitchel Center is directed by Patricia Swartz, Special Projects Coordinator. It is open by appointment. Use our contact form or call 748-2372 for further information.
