On March 17th we will meet in the field at the Sherryland property in Danville from 12-2pm. We will be learning about a small sugaring operation, viewing the process from tree to syrup. We will start in the sugar bush looking at tapping the maple trees and then make our way to the sugar house to boil the sap, finally trying some of the syrup. We will think about how weather plays an important role in the production of Vermont Maple syrup.
$10 per student with one chaperone free. Directions to the sugar bush at Sherryland:
Turn left onto Peacham Rd, Turn left at the 1st cross street onto Park St, Continue onto Brainerd St, Slight right onto Greenbanks Hollow Rd. (do not turn on to Joes Brook road to the left). Brainerd will become Greenbanks Hollow Road.
Please park along the road around 633 Greenbanks Hollow Road, looking for a red sugar shack off the road. It is across the road from a large horse farm. We will have a “family field day” sign up with an arrow pointing to the meeting spot.
