At the Balch Nature School, we believe that children are born with a desire to explore and understand the natural world, and that early experiences with nature set a precedent for lifelong learning and well-being.
We provide children with special nature-centered opportunities to learn about themselves, the world, life.
The Balch Nature School
- provides nature-based learning for children ages 3-5,
- meets Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Museum,
- incorporates hands-on, discovery-oriented activities that are designed to inspire a lifelong love of nature and foster a lasting environmental ethic.
The upcoming school year begins on September 12, 2012 and continues through May 24, 2013.
Tuition for the year is $1,170.

Jane Cameron, Director, has been an area educator for over 30 years and holds a license in both Early Education and Elementary Education from the State of Vermont.
April Zajko, M.Ed, is the lead teacher. She has an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Education. April is a Vermont-licenses Early Childhood Educator and Reading Specialist.
William E. Balch (1854-1919) was the Fairbanks Museum’s first naturalist, taxidermist, photographer and artist. A gifted observer of nature, he is the inspiration for the Balch Nature School.
